Back to School
Schools are beginning to reopen as coronavirus lockdown measures are gradually relaxed. But the classrooms of the “new norm” are likely to look very different from how they did just a few months ago. And they will likely be this way for some time.
Restrictions on class sizes, split times of the school day, taped off zones and keeping pupils apart both in the classroom and in the playground are just some of the social distancing measures which are, and will be, present in schools around the country.
Elsewhere, many nations have installed plastic shields around pupil’s desks and those of teachers as well as in other areas of the school such as canteens, IT suites and science labs. These screens are designed to stop the spread of the virus between children, and between pupils and staff, can be installed as permanent and portable measures.
How schools are using plastic screens to halt COVID-19
Schools in Wuhan - the Chinese city where the outbreak originated - were some of the first in the world to reopen with increased protective measures in place. Students were pictured studying behind clear desk partitions and are required to carry folding screens with them to lunch in dining areas.
When Dutch schools reopened in early May similar scenes depicted the preventative action taken in the Netherlands. Specifically, flexible screens were used to shield others from a pupil or staff member who displayed symptoms of the virus such as a persistent cough.
Protective screens for UK schools in coronavirus pandemic
Schools around the UK have already put measures in place as they welcome the first batch of pupils back to the classroom with more to follow in September following the summer break.
Sneeze screens such as these are proving to be a popular choice as are screens for reception areas which are often the busiest point of a school for contact from outsiders coming in.
Mobile protection screens are a particularly practical option as are wipe clean desk screens both for classrooms and school offices.
